BPJT Ministry of PUPR Participates in the Success of CAFEO37 Exhibition, Showing VCM Technology in Palembang - Simpang Indralaya Toll Road Development
The Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of PUPR participated in the implementation of the 37th Conference of the ASEAN Conference of Engineering Organizations (CAFEO37) at JIEXPO, Kemayoran which was held for two days on 11 - 12 September 2019. Continued the ASEAN Conference of Engineers Organization 37 on September 11-14, 2019.
This exhibition is part of a series of events of the 37th ASEAN Conference of Engineers Organization which was opened by President Joko Widodo, which was attended by more than 1,000 ASEAN engineers. The Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimoeljono and the Head of the Danang Parikesit Toll Road Regulatory Agency also attended the event along with a number of other Indonesian cabinet Ministers.
On this occasion, President Jokowi hoped that the presence of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organization (AFEO) exhibition could facilitate its members to share experiences and knowledge and work together with each other because each ASEAN country had their respective strengths.
According to the Chairman of the AFEO / Chairperson of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) Heru Dewanto explained that CAFEO37, which will take place on 11-14 September 2019, will showcase Indonesia's development achievements to the international world which are the best works of Indonesian engineers.
This exhibition, BPJT Ministry of Public Works and Housing presented one of the Vacuum Consolidation Method (VCM) technologies applied in the construction of the Palembang - Simpang Indralaya Toll Road. In the construction of toll roads in Indonesia, it is known that this technology is the first time used in Indonesia, namely in the Palembang - Simpang Indralaya toll road.
In order to speed up the process of building the toll road, a Vacuum Consolidation Method (VCM) technology was developed to reduce water content and air content in the soil, because in these areas domination with the construction of roads on swamp land with heavy terrain that requires special construction methods.
The presence of VCM technology is intended to accelerate the decline and increase the carrying capacity of soft native soils by vacuum pumping on the soil which is intended to reduce water content and air content in the soil grains so as to accelerate the long-term reduction and decrease in difference.
VCM technology is an environmentally friendly technology device, because soil improvement is mechanical and does not use chemicals. The advantage of this technology is that it has a low disruption to other work activities, can even overlap with other work so that the overall construction schedule can be shortened.
