President Jokowi Visits Semarang - Demak Toll Road, Multifunctional Connectivity Supports Economic Smoothness in Central Java

Sayung - President Joko Widodo accompanied by Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, and Regent of Demak Eistianah paid a visit to the construction of the Semarang - Demak Toll Road Section 2, on Friday ( 11/6/21).

"Today, I am reviewing the Semarang - Demak Toll Road project, which is part of the Trans Java toll road network, the Java North Coast corridor. This corridor will connect the areas of Semarang, Demak, Tuban, to Gresik. The Gresik - Surabaya toll road segment itself has been connected by connectivity. This toll road has been in operation for a long time," President Jokowi said during his visit.

President Jokowi said, "This toll road is expected to be able to significantly reduce traffic jams in the Kaligawe area and Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang, which have been stuck for decades, whether large vehicles can pass through this toll road.

In addition to being an access link between regions, President Jokowi also added that this toll road network has the privilege of being multifunctional. In addition to improving connectivity, the Semarang - Demak Toll Road Section 1 will also support the control of tidal flooding that occurs with the function of retention ponds, sea walls

"When everything is completed and the area is inundated by dry tidal floods, so that it can be used both for industrial areas and new economic growth centers. We hope that the construction of this toll road can be completed soon and further encourage economic growth in the Central Java region," concluded President Jokowi during his visit. .

For information, the 26.7 Km Semarang - Demak Toll Road consists of 2 sections, built under the Business Entity Cooperation with the Government (PPP) scheme with an investment value of Rp. 5.4 trillion.

For Section 1 (Kaligawe - Sayung) with a length of 10.39 km, it is the Government's support. Meanwhile Section 2 (Sayung - Demak) with a length of 16.31 km is the responsibility of the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) PT Pembangunan Perumahan Semarang Demak.

Currently, the construction progress for Section 2 of the Semarang - Demak Toll Road has reached 41.63%, which is targeted for construction in June 2022 to be completed and operational soon. Meanwhile, the construction for section 1 is targeted to begin in January 2022, and construction will be completed in 2024.

The Semarang - Demak Toll Road, namely, is the first toll road he has built that is integrated with the sea wall in Indonesia. Then using the Polder system, namely the presence of 2 retention ponds (Terboyo Retention Pool, and Sriwulan Retention Pool).

Head of BPJT Danang Parikesit added that during the field work, the construction method was also carried out using a cone and bamboo mat construction method to overcome very soft soil conditions, so this method is expected to further facilitate the implementation of the construction.

"Uniquely, in the implementation of the construction of the Semarang Demak Toll Road, it uses 14,881 pile points with an average depth of 55-60 meters, with the pile carrying capacity method that relies on the Friction Pile bearing capacity due to the soft soil texture, namely by 30-50 meters deep," said Danang.

Later this toll road will have 2 interchanges (SS), namely SS Sayung and SS Demak. The construction of the Semarang - Demak toll road uses domestic products in the form of precast concrete produced by PT WIKA Beton.

During the implementation of the Semarang - Demak Toll Road construction, 718 non-labor intensive workers were employed, consisting of BUJT, Contractors, Planning Consultants, and Supervision Consultants. Then there are 2,604 labor-intensive workers (realization until May 2021).
