Balikpapan-Samarinda Toll Road First Toll Road in Kalimantan

Stretching along the 99.35 Km Balikpapan-Samarinda Toll Road is the first toll road on Kalimantan Island. The construction progress on this toll road has reached 85.73% (Status 1 February 2019).

The Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road itself consists of five sections, namely Balikpapan-Samboja Section I along 22.03 Km which is currently in the construction phase with a progress of 96.82% targeted to be operational in April 2019, Samboja-Muara Jawa Section II in length 30.98 Km with construction progress of 83.73% which is targeted to operate in March 2019, Section III Muara Jawa-Palaran along 17.50 Km with construction progress of 97.21% and targeted to be operational in March 2019, Section IV Palaran- Samarinda with a length of 17.95 Km with construction progress of 75.33% is targeted to operate in July 2019, Section V Balikpapan-Sepinggan Airport along 11.09 with construction progress currently reaching 68% and will be targeted to operate in August 2019.

The toll road with an investment of 9.9 Trillion that connects Balikpapan City and Samarinda City is designed to be the embryo of the Trans Kalimantan Toll Road.

This toll road is expected to increase connectivity and reduce logistics costs between the two regions. In the end, trimming logistics costs will have implications for the efficiency of production of sectors in the Kalimantan region. As the first toll road on the island of Borneo, the Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road is expected to be able to encourage the development of industrial estates that are engaged in the palm oil, coal, oil and gas and agricultural sectors.

The presence of the Balikpapan-Samarinda Toll Road can cut travel time which currently travels from Balikpapan City to Samarinda takes up to 3 hours, with the presence of this toll road being shorter than 1 hour.

For information, Balikpapan-Samarinda Toll Road in Section I received APBD support and for section V received APBN and Chinese Loan support. This Toll Road is managed by PT. Jasamarga Balikpapan Samarinda which is a subsidiary of PT. Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk. Signing of Toll Road Concession Agreement on 9 June 2016 with a concession period of 40 years since SPMK. This toll road has a plan speed of 80km / hour with a 2x2 start lane and a 2x3 final lane.
