Increasing Foreign Investment Opportunities in Infrastructure, BPJT Participates in Singapore Indonesia Investment Day
Singapore (07/26), Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) participated in the 2nd Indonesia Investment Day (IID) in Singapore which took place today (07/27).
Also present at this event, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Abdurrahman M Fachir, Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Ngurah Swajaya and Head of Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) Danang Parikesit.
In his speech Abdurrahman said that 2nd IID aims not only to introduce a conducive investment environment in Indonesia, but also to provide an explanation of why this is the right time to invest in Indonesia.
"Entering its second year, this event took place at a very appropriate time, where the Indonesian Government is currently focused and strongly supports us to be more open to foreign investors. Moreover, it is not only the investment opportunities that we offer but also how Indonesia can provide good "packaging" to support the investment climate so that investors are more interested, one of which is by holding this event, "Abdurrahman explained.
Also acting as a panelist in the infrastructure session, Head of BPJT Danang Parikesit stated that there were still many foreign investors who were afraid to risk project-based investments. For this reason, according to Danang, there are three easy and safe investment methods for foreign investors to start investing in the toll road business.
"The first way is investment through the capital market. Currently there are many Toll Road Business Entities (BUJTs) that are open companies so investors can easily buy shares or make strategic agreements directly with BUJT, "said Danang.
The second way is to form a consortium of companies with 33 BUJTs in Indonesia. "BPJT as a regulator can facilitate investors who are interested in this investment scheme. Of course this is safe for foreign investors, considering that BUJT fully understands the toll road business process so that it reduces the risks that must be faced by foreign investors, "continued Danang.
While the third way is for investors who dare to take risks, can invest directly into Indonesia by forming a BUJT and become the lead consortium. "There are already a number of foreign companies that do this, usually companies that initially engaged in the toll road business," explained Danang.
Singapore's position in the investment sector is increasingly strategic, considering that Singapore is still the largest investment country in Indonesia until the first quarter of this year. Singapore is also often used as a reference by various representatives of multinational companies that will develop businesses in the Southeast Asia Region, especially Indonesia.
2nd IID is an activity initiated by the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore in collaboration with the Singapore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and all stakeholders of Indonesia's economic diplomacy in Singapore. This activity is filled by integrated promotional activities consisting of high-level sessions; panel discussion on investment in industry, tourism and infrastructure; one-on-one consultation session and start-up pitching.
