Balikpapan - Samarinda Toll Road Creates Growth in New Economic Areas on Kalimantan Island

Jakarta - As a real effort to implement infrastructure development to produce economic equality and improve the welfare of the people in East Kalimantan Province, the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of PUPR continues to push for the completion of the 99.35 Kilometer Balikpapan - Samarinda Toll Road.

The Balikpapan - Samarinda toll road which is the first toll road on the island of Kalimantan built since November 2016 is divided into 5 sections, namely Section I, Balikpapan - Samboja section along 22.03 Km, Section II Samboja - Muara Jawa segment along 30.98 Km. Then in Muara Jawa - Palaran Section III along 17.50 Km, Section IV Palaran - Samarinda along 17.95 Km, and Section V Balikpapan - Sepinggan section along 11.09 Km.

Based on construction monitoring as of June 21, 2019, currently the construction progress of the Balikpapan - Samarinda Toll Road Section I - V as a whole has reached 90.19%. For Section I and Section V, the construction progress now reaches 92.91%. Then Section II, Section III, and Section IV at this time the construction progress has reached 92.51%.

The construction of the Balikpapan - Samarinda toll road Section I to Section V is expected to be operational in October 2019. The total investment cost for the construction of this toll road is reaching Rp. 9.97 trillion by the construction executor of PT. Jasamarga Balikpapan Samarinda.

After the operation of the Balikpapan - Samarinda Toll Road, later this toll road can cut the logistics costs of distributing goods and services faster between the two cities. Travel between the Balikpapan and Samarinda regions from the original time can take 3 hours, later it can be reached in just one hour.

The presence of the toll road which is the forerunner of the Trans Kalimantan road is welcomed by the people who continue to support the construction of this toll road to the completion stage. It is expected that after the construction of this toll road, it will create a new economic zone on the island of Borneo which simultaneously encourages the growth of the region to become increasingly better and more developed.

The Balikpapan - Samarinda toll road is a supporter of the development of industrial areas engaged in the palm oil, coal, oil and gas and agriculture sectors. Later the area crossed by the toll road further enhances the quality of future development, and the presence of this toll road can be a pride for the people of Kalimantan.

Furthermore, Balikpapan - Samarinda Toll Road is also a connecting access for Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman International Airport, Sepinggan. Access to this airport can be reached within 15-20 minutes by passing Section V of the Balikpapan - Sepinggan section which is only about 8 km from the airport.
